Hobert Meek, age 85 of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa. Born July 9, 1929 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Elias Meek and Mary Staniford Meek. He is survived by his wife, Trixie Spence Meek of Williamsport; six sons, Hobert Meek Jr. of Hager Hill, KY, Jerry Mitchell Meek of Greenup, KY, Paul Rick Meek of Nippa, KY, Thomas Meek of Meridian, MS, Huston Meek of Nippa, KY, Maurice Meek of Hager Hill, KY; four daughters, Brenda Ratliff of Mount Sterling, KY, Linda Watkins of South Point, OH, Tammy Scarberry of Stambaugh, KY, Michelle Watts of South Point, OH; one brother, Clyde Meek of Williamsport, KY; one sister, Estelle Fyffe of Ohio; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Meek Family Cemetery at Williamsport. Arthur Scarberry and Hobert Meek Jr. will officiate. Military services to be conducted by the DAV Chapter 18, Auxier, KY. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5-9pm on Friday.  Irene Slone, age 85, of Flat Gap, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home of Paintsville. Born January 10, 1929 in Johnson County to the late Elbert Murray and Oma Salyers Murray. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ora Lloyd Slone {1997}; one son, Leon Slone; one daughter, Brenda Neal; four brothers, Elbert Jr., Cecil Douglas, Paul, and Clarence Murray; four sisters, Helen Jean Murray, Hermalee Ross, Nevalena Justo, and Maxine Ripley. She is survived by two sons, Darrell (Karen) Slone and Ricky (Ruby) Slone both of Lexington, KY; one daughter, Roxann (Crawford) Akers of Flat Gap, KY; four brothers, Thomas Murray of Hager Hill, KY, Phillip Murray of Springfield, OH, Robert Murray of Dayton, OH, Troy Ray Murray of Columbus, OH; one sister, Lorraine Harris of Flat Gap, KY; nine grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held 11am Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Old Hood United Baptist Church at Blaine with burial to follow in the Sparks Cemetery also at Blaine. Johnny Mollett, Gene May, and Claude Mollett will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 11am-9pm. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

Bobby Perkins, age 57 of Van Lear, went to be with Jesus on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born August 21, 1957 in Johnson County to the late Frank Perkins and Ruby Ramey Perkins. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Larry, William Hayes, and Charles Perkins; one sister, Irene. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Perkins; one daughter, Kayla Fitchpatrick of Paintsville; two brothers, Jimmy Perkins of Wabash, Inidiana, Roger Perkins of Morgon, Georgia; four sisters, Sue Steele of Wabash, Indiana, Sheila Jefferson of Oconee, Georgia, Lisa Vanhoose of Pikeville, Kentucky, Dorothy Ratliff of Oconee, Georgia; and thirteen grandchildren. He has left behind a host of other family and friends who will miss his presence in their lives.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Van Lear Enterprise Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Roger Hill will officiate. Friends may visit at the church on Thursday after 12pm and until time of service on Friday. Jethro Spaulding, age 85 of Wilsondale, West Virginia passed away Monday, November 17, 2014 at Highland Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg. Born January 7, 1929 in Wayne County West Virginia, he was the son of the late William Riley Spaulding and Alice Brewer. Jethro is survived by three daughters, Hazel Messer of Louisa, KY, Rosa Mullins of Crum, WV, and Delores Jude of Columbus, Ohio; eighteen grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be 11am Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Turkey Creek Church at Wilsondale with burial to follow in the Spaulding Cemetery also at Wilsondale. Darrell Ratliff, Homer Junior Spaulding, and Robert Messer will officiate. Friends may visit the church after 11am Wednesday and all day Thursday. Church services will be held Thursday evening.  Hank Fletcher, age 62 of Inez, passed away Monday, November 17, 2014 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Born April 15, 1952 in Martin County, he was the son of the late Tommy and Nora Sesco Fletcher. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Joe Russell Fletcher; and one sister, Ella Rose Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Alice (Fletcher) Fletcher; two sons, Richard and Keenis Fletcher both of Inez; two daughters, Stephanie (Ralph) Johnson and Polly Ann Maynard (Nebert Porter) both of Inez; five brothers, Bobby Fletcher and Calvin Fletcher both of Inez, Harold Fletcher of Dunlow, WV, Tommy Fletcher and Willard Young both of Paintsville; three sisters, Ella Stepp of Inez, Emma Simmons of Ohio, and Gracie Combs of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren, Greg and Austin Johnson.

 

Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Vineyard United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Jude – Fletcher Cemetery at Pilgrim.  Jerry Michael Rowland, age 56 of Paintsville, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his home. Born August 21, 1958 in Johnson County he was the son of the late Creval Rowland and Ruth Gullett Rowland. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one son, Timothy Ray Rowland; three brothers, Glen, Johnny, and Happy Rowland; and one sister, Alice Kestner. He is survived by one son, James Michael(Crystal) Rowland of Prestonsburg; five brothers, Charles Rowland of Wheelwright, Richard Rowland of Paintsville, Gary Lee Rowland of Hager Hill, William Henry Rowland of Hager Hill, Clifford Rowland of Paintsville; one sister, Jenny Burkhalter of Hazard; three grandchildren, Madalene Richelle Rowland, Jacob Timothy Rowland, and Gracie Spears. A host of nieces and nephews also survive along with a special friend, Bryan Fraley.

 

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Adams Cemetery at Hager Hill.  James R. Hensley, age 67 of Inez, passed away Saturday November 15, 2014 at Highland Regional Medical Center. Born April 15, 1947 he was the son of the late Richard Hensley and Zelda Brewer Hensley. In addition to his parents,he is preceded in death by his wife first Mildred (Dove) Hensley, and Nephew Shawn Preece. He is survived by his wife Irene Stepp Hensley of Inez; two sons, Daniel (Brenda) Hensley of Pike Co and Steven Hensley of Inez; two daughters, Rene (Jimmy) Fitch of Leaner, Mary Ruth (Joey) Jarrell of Inez; two step daughters, Missy (Jimmy) Dalton of Beauty and Sharion (Steve) Younk of Beauty; three brothers, David (Nonnie) Hensley of Tomahawk, John Paul (Tammy) Hensley of Warfield, George Baily of Columbus; three sisters, Mary Lee Copley of Beauty, Elizabeth (David) Jewell of Louisa, Sarah Preece (Mike Maynard) of Beauty; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. James was a devout Christian and active in several churches.

 

Funeral services will be 12 PM Tuesday November 18, 2014 in the chapel of Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Perry Cemetery of Inez. John Taylor and Ray Taylor will officiate. Evelyn Mills, age 89 of Tomahawk, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Martin County Health Care Facility in Inez. Born September 25, 1925 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Mills and Virgie Davis Mills. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Mills; two brothers, Mermon Mills and Russell Mills; three sisters, Clotene Mills, Ova Mills, and Hestle Mills. Evelyn is survived by one son, Jimmy R. Mills of Paintsville, Kentucky; six daughters, Florene Williamson of Columbus, Ohio, Susan Fannin of Milo, Kentucky, Juanita Harmon of Cedar City, Utah, Janice Osborne of Paintsville, Kentucky, Lois Fields of Paintsville, Kentucky, Lori Mills of Saint Petersburg, Florida; three brothers, Oliver Mills of Frankfort, Kentucky, Wade Mills of Columbus, Ohio, and Cletis Mills also of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Katherine Mills of Inez, Kentucky and Vernita Fuller of Columbus, Ohio; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive.

 Funeral services will be 2pm Friday, November 21, 2014 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mills Cemetery at Debord. Roger Harless will officiate. Ruth Carol Workman-Canterbury, age 69 of Jennies Creek, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at Williamson Memorial Hospital. Born April 9, 1945 in Mingo County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Workman and Virgie Ward Workman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Jessie Workman, Emma Jean Workman, Lavern Collins and Lilly Workman; six brothers, James Collins, Junior Collins, William Collins, Bob Workman, Ed Workman, and Sam Workman. She is survived by three sons, Richard Dean Brewer, David Gene (Verlie) Brewer, and Charles Franklin (Joan) Brewer all of Kermit, West Virginia; two daughters, Lois Marie Brewer and Carol Jean Brewer all of Kermit, West Virginia; two sisters, Beulah Collins of Ohio and Ruby Collins of California; ten grandchildren, and several great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be 1pm Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Perry Point Church on Jennies Creek with burial to follow in the Spaulding Cemetery also on Jennies Creek. Friends may visit the church after 4pm Wednesday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

Norman (Ralph) Quillen, Sr, age 69 of Tomahawk, Kentucky passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at his home. Born May 4, 1945 in Letcher County Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Henry Quillen and Rozzie Johnson Quillen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, Winston, Leonard, Frances, Maurice, and Danny Quillen; and one sister, Edna Anderson. He is survived by one son, Norman R. Quillen, Jr of Tomahawk, Kentucky; two daughters, Nicole Lynn Quillen of Westland, Michigan and Shanon Rene Quillen of Tomahawk, Kentucky; one brother, Geddy Quillen of Michigan; and two grandchildren, Bradley Shawn Harris and Kyla Lathom.

Judy is survived by one son, Ronald Scott ofVersailles, Kentucky; three daughters, Shannon Scott of Tomahawk, Kentucky, Debbie Peters of Versailles, Kentucky and Tammy Cassady also of Versailles, Kentucky; five brothers, Gary Mullins of Auxier, Kentucky, Tom Mullins of Honor, Michigan, Paul Mullins and Cliff Mullins both of Wauseon, Ohio, and Kenny Mullins of Harts, West Virginia; one sister, Ann Mullins of Wauseon, Ohio; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Born November 3, 1934 in Martin County to the late Walker “Kay” Harless and Gladys Osborne Harless. In addition to her parents Susie is preceded in death by one son, Russell Jr. “Toby” Workman; four grandchildren, Elden Gene Thomas, Lee Anthony Whitt, Kenneth “Tot” Delong, and Michael Dustin Workman; three brothers, George L., Clarence, and David Harless. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Russell Workman; ten children, Carol (Kenneth) Delong of Rockcastle Creek, KY, Barbara (Charles) West of McAndrew, KY, Bessie (Paul) Morrison of Debord, KY, Everett (Connie) Workman 0f Lovely, KY, Debbie (Conley) Dials of Lovely, KY, Zonia (Dan) Conley of South Point, OH, Bonnie (Roger) Jude of Debord, KY, Larry Workman of Prestonsburg, KY, Michael (Hope) Workman of Lovely, KY, Shannon (Carolyn) Workman of Debord, KY; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren; four brothers, Bernard, Floyd, Winford, and Homer Harless; four sisters, Rushie Pellican, Irene Cook, Ethel Crum, and Mary Howard.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Meade; one son, Tim (Karen) Meade of Van Lear; one brother, Darrin Spears of Florida; five sisters, Londa Meek of Van Lear, Darla Stroud of Catlettsburg, Lisa Shockley of Florida, Marta Montoya of Florida, Bridget Yusef of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

She is survived by her husband Warnie James of Louisa,KY; one son, Johnny Ray James of Kermit, WV; three daughters, Sharon Pinson Perry of Morris, Alabama, Bernice Swisher of Kermit, WV, and Linda James of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Eugene Maynard of Inez, KY; two sisters, Arizona Stepp of Lovely, KY, and Bernice Stepp of Ohio; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV, with Ellis Maynard officiating.
