Bertha Evans Maynard, age 85 of Crum, West Virginia, passed away Monday August 31, 2015 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Born July 12, 1930 in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Ben Harris and Virgie Spaulding Harris. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Maynard {2001}; three brothers, Flem, Joe, and Johnny Harris; three sisters, Arminda, Polly, and Clista. She is survived by three sons, Charles Evans of Genoa, West Virginia, Isaac Maynard, Jr of Huntington, West Virginia, and Ira Evans of Williamson, West Virginia; four daughters, Virgie Varney of Pinson Fork, Kentucky, Deloris Stanley and Judy Rose both of Williamson, West Virginia and Wanda Spaulding of Crum, West Virginia; one brother, James Harris of Edmonton, Kentucky; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Silver Creek United Baptist Church at Crum, West Virginia with burial to follow in the Family Cemetery at Genoa, West Virginia. Gabe Smith will officiate. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Friends may visit the church from 5-10pm Tuesday and until the time of service on Wednesday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

Clifford Butcher, age 78 of Corbin, formerly of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Riverview Health Care Facility in Prestonsburg. Born May 22, 1937 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Angus and Mildred Daniel Butcher. In addition to his parents, Clifford is preceded in death by four brothers, Granville “Bo” Butcher, Maurice “Booteye” Butcher, Angus Butcher, Jr and Joe M. Butcher; and one sister, Bonnie Fraley. He is survived by two sons, Barry Butcher of East Point, KY and James Butcher of Corbin, KY; two daughters, Lisa Fugett of Ceredo, WV and Tammy Blanton of Morehead, KY; one brother, Don Butcher of Scottown, Ohio; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, August 29, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Gethsemane Gardens at Prestonsburg. Joe Scott will officaite. Chris Carter, age 54 of Franklin, OH passed away Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born February 20, 1961 in Middletown, OH, the son of Roger Carter and the late Donna Hopkins.
Chris was currently employed with Akers Packaging Service, Inc. and was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Carter and step-mother, Darlene Carter.
Chris is survived by his father, Roger Carter; sisters, Julie (Curtis) Wood; Melinda (Tim) Duf...f; step-son, Morgan David Goble; grandchildren, David Alan Goble and Marlena Elaine Goble; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Friday, August 28, 2015 at 6:00 pm at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call Saturday Aug. 29, 2015 from 1:00 til 2:00 pm at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Inez. Burial will be in Bowen Family Cemetery, Inez, KY.

Floyd Eugene Vanhoose, age 65 of Nippa, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Born May 2, 1950 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Lifes and Bonita Stambaugh Vanhoose. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his a sister, Sandra Hall; and a grand daughter, Isabella Jean Sturgill. He is survived by his wife, Carol Roberts Vanhoose; two daughters, Heather Fyffe of Flat Gap and Ashley Vanhoose of Nippa; two brothers, James Vanhoose and Danny Vanhoose both of Nippa; one sister, Carolyn Vanhoose of Lexington, KY; one grandchild, Seth Fyffe, his pride and joy; and many special friends also survive.
Mr. Vanhoose was retired from Martin County Coal after 23 years, a mine inspector with MSHA, a veteran from the United Stated Air Force and a Mason.
Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday, August 23, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the W.R. Castle Memorial Cemetery. Polly Maynard, age 74, of Inez, Ky.,went home to be with the Lord Thursday August 13, 2015 at Kings Daughteer Medical Center.. Born September 2, 1940 in Martin County she was the daughter of the late George and Ada Porter Stacy. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by three brothers; George Jr., Tan and Millard Stacy and one sister; Ethel Howard.
She is survived by her husband James I. Maynard of Inez, Ky., one step-son; James Maynard Jr., five daughters; Margaret (George) Fletcher of Inez, Ky., Sue (Gary) Muncy of Tennessee, Deborah (Mack) Estep of Tennessee, Maddie (Donnie) Howard of Inez, Ky. and Janet (Kip) Keener of Lovely, Ky., two brothers; Kennis Stacy of Chattaroy, W.V., and Jobie Stacy of Kermit, W.V., one sister; Ollie Sturgill of Ft. Gay, W.V., thirteen grandchildren; Steven, Bobby and George Jr. Fletcher, Renee Pinson, Brandon Muncy, Falon Hawley, Misty and Justin Maynard, Savannah Sweeney, Coty Howard, Jared, Kaitlyn, and Sarah Keener and seventeen great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Golden Shores Memorial Gardens. Rev. Kenneth Gore, Justin Maynard, and Joe McGinnis will be officiating. Friends may visit from 6 – 9 pm Friday and all day Saturday at the funeral home.

Linda Lee Johnson, age 64 of Hager Hill, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at her home. Born April 7, 1951 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of Belle Dale Ramey and the late Cuder Ramey. In addition to her mother, she is survived by three daughters, Letha (Paul) Conley of Flat Gap, Cathy (Brian) Ramey-Pruitt of Eden, North Carolina, Amber Ramey (Casey Jones) of Marysville, TN; two brothers, Henry Ramey of Prestonsburg and Sam Ramey of Paintsville; eight sisters, Donna Lemaster of Hager Hill, Joyce Webb of Sitka, Della Auxier of Hager Hill, Pauline Blair of Paintsville, Patty McKenzie of Paintsville, Penny Obrian of Winchester, Jenny Fraley of Van Lear, and Prissa Mullins of Van Lear; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 12pm Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Calvary Church of God, (Pine Street - Paintsville, KY) with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Arvil Johnson Jr., age 43, of Ft. Gay, WV, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at St. Marys Medical Center. Born October 11, 1971 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Arvil and Charlotte Brewer Johnson. In addition to his parents he is also survived by his wife, Dorothy Sue Johnson of Ft. Gay, WV; five sons, Robert Rector of Ft. Gay, WV, Michael Rector of Gilbert, WV, and Travis, Brandon and Keith Johnson all of Ft. Gay, WV; four brothers, Haskel Johnson of Lexington, KY, Steven and Chris Johnson both of Ft. Gay, WV, and Josh Johnson of Charleston, WV; one sister, Tina Johnson of Ft. Gay, WV; and two grandchildren, Mikaylee Johnson and Sonnie Preece. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday August 14, 2015 at the Walnut Grove Church of Christ with Bruce Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the Messer Cemetery at Jennies Creek. Evelyn Kestner, age 59 of Sitka, KY, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY after a nine year courageous battle with cancer. Evelyn was born April 1, 1956 in Magoffin County to the late Boyd and Armatha Conley LeMaster. She was also preceded in death by one son, Roger Lee Kestner, Jr. on June 23, 2000 and one daughter, Melissa Carol Kestner on June 19, 2015, as well as two sisters, Lola Blair and Mary Meade, and one brother, Lenzie LeMaster. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-four years, Roger Kestner; three brothers, Larry LeMaster and Lonnie LeMaster of Cable, Ohio, Ronnie LeMaster of Thelma, Kentucky; three sisters, Pauline May of Salyersville, Kentucky, Janet George of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, and Karen Caudill of Sitka, Kentucky. A host of family and friends also survives.
Evelyn was employed at Paul B. Hall Medical Center for over 20 years until her illness forced her to retire. She always spoke so fondly of her co-workers and how much she missed working. She also had many nieces and nephews who loved her so much and she did them. They always referred to her as Aunt Ebby, so that name stuck with her. She was the kindest, most loving person you would ever meet. Always there for her family no matter what time of day or night, helping in any way she could. She suffered a lot of grief in her life, but she is now with her loved ones and her children so she is suffering no more. Ebby, until we meet again we will hold your memory forever in you hearts.

Clara Haskins, age 79 of Franklin, Ohio passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 in Middletown, Ohio. Born April 10, 1936 in Mingo County, she was the daughter of the late Kiser and Martha Nicholas Murphy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Eula Jean Hall; four brothers, Robert Lee Murphy, William Murphy, Jimmy Murphy, and Douglas Murphy; and three sisters, Ruby Jean May, Bonnie Murphy, and Connie Murphy. Clara is survived by four sons, Harold Murphy of Florida, James Curry of Richmond, Virginia, William Hinkle and Samuel Hall both of Martinsville, Virginia; six daughters, Toni Murphy of Florida, Betty Bowens of Dayton, Ohio, Shirley Curry of California, Martha Hall of Florida, Fannie Hall of Martinsville, Virginia, and Nora Helton of Franklin, Ohio; three sisters, Naomi Murphy of Virginia, Rose Frankovich of Martinsville, Virginia, and Peggy Murphy of Lake City, Florida; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren also survive.

Heather Endicott Rudd, age 38, of Inez, Ky., went home to Heaven Saturday, August 8, 2015 at her residence, after a long battle with cancer. Born November 20, 1976 in Marion ,Oh., she is the daughter of Billy Endicott of Louisa, Ky., and Sharon (Mike) Christian of Edison Oh.,
Also surviving are her grandparents; Margaret (Lester) Yager and John (Nancy) Crace both of Marion, Oh., one brother; Shane Endicott of Louisa, Ky., four children; Tyler and Devin Briggs and Allison and Issac Rudd of Marion,Oh., two step-sisters; Kimberly (Jason) Chaffin of Port Clinton, Oh., and Miranda (Seth) Orians of Upper Sandusky, Oh., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Luther (Susie) Endicott formerly of Louisa, Ky.
There will be a memorial service held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Turkey Creek Church of the Nazarene and a memorial service pending at White Oaks Freewill Baptist Church in Marion ,Oh. Jenna Blair Hall, age 21 of Paintsville, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Born September 18, 1993 in Ashland, Kentucky to Eddie and Sherri Salyers Blair of Paintsville. She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Rex Hall and her paternal grandfather, Benny L. Blair. In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Josh Hall of Paintsville; two brothers, Jarrett and Mason Blair of Paintsville; maternal grandparents, Bill and Sandy Salyers of Paintsville; paternal grandmother, Olena Blair of Staffordsville; mother-in-law, Regina McClure and husband Gary of Paintsville; grandfather-in-law, James Ward; brother-in-law, Justin Hall; Mitch Wilson, whom was like a brother; and her precious dog, Ellie Kay.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Paintsville High School Gymnasium with burial to follow in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery. Donnie Patrick and Wayne Cornett will officiate. Friends may visit at the church from 11am-9pm Thursday and from 10am-1pm on Friday. Melissa Ann Maynard, age 45 of Inez, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Born May 28, 1970 in Queens, New York, she is the daughter of Henry Hyer and the late Patricia Miller Hyer. In addition to her mother she is preceded in death by her husband, John Maynard {2008}. She is survived by four daughters, Tabatha (Adam) Harmon of Inez, Amanda Gibson of Inez, Krystal (Curtis) Goble of Lexington, Jessy Maynard of Inez; one stepdaughter, Erika (Matt) Iranpour of Louisville; one stepson, Anthony Maynard of Inez; two brothers, Henry Hyer of Michigan, Eric Hyer of New York; one sister, Laura Graven of Michigan; and eight grandchildren.
