     Daniel Boone Preece, age 79 of Inez, Ky., passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, Ky. Born February 3, 1936 in Martin County, he was one of thirteen children. He was born to the late William Howard and Rosie Delong Preece. Daniel grew up in Kentucky. Served four years in the Navy; followed by careers on the railroad and coal fields of Eastern Kentucky. Daniel retired in 1996 and was actively involved in church, a devoted husband and family man. He is preceded in death by a sister, Fern Carty; brothers, Lonnie, Glen Ray, Harold, and Howard Preece, Jr. Daniel is survived by his wife, Vina Sue Maynard Preece; four sons: Gary (and Bernice), Roger (and Brenda), William and Michael; one daughter, Sheila (and Danny) Adkins; grandchildren: Matthew, Megan, David, Bonnie, Missy, Mallory, Lakin, Ada, Austin, Adam, and Ella; fifteen great grandchildren; brothers: Franklin, James Buddy, and Donnie; sisters: Fay Marcum, Corinne Ellis, Verna McKenzie, and Sharon Winchester.

 

      Funeral services will be 1:30pm Sunday, January 3, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens at Louisa. Danny Hall and Lonnie Smith will officiate. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 5-9pm Friday, from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday, and prior to the service on Sunday. There will be a Masonic Service, 7pm Saturday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

     Bobby Lee Fitchpatrick, infant son of James and Kayla Perkins Fitchpatrick of Thealka, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the University of Louisville Hospital. Bobby Lee is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Bobby Perkins; maternal great grandparents, Frank and Ruby Perkins; and his paternal great grandfather, Junior Fitchpatrick. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Cody Perkins and James Fitchpatrick; one sister, Kaitlynn Fitchpatrick; maternal grandparents, Lynn Perkins of Van Lear, and Donna Brink of Paintsville; paternal grandparents, Robert and Martha Ann Fitchpatrick of Thealka; paternal great grandmother, Martha Fitchpatrick of Van Lear. He is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.

     Graveside services will be held 2pm Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Fitchpatrick Cemetery at Van Lear. Jackie Hall will officiate. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

     Dustin Kyle Burke, age 29 of Hager Hill, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at his home. Born January 15, 1986 in Johnson County, he was the son of John C. and Rhonda (Tackett) Burke of Hager Hill. In addition to his parents, Dustin is survived by his wife, Julie Marie (Brown) Burke; two daughters, Kylie Marie Burke and Sarah Lou Burke; two brothers, Frankie (and Anita) Burke of Prestonsburg, KY and Lee Burke of Johnson County; one sister, Johnna (and Jammie) Slone of Boonscamp, KY; his paternal grandfather, Billy Burke of Hager Hill, KY; two nieces, Lexi and Kalee Slone; three nephews, Jaykob Burke, David and Steven Bentley; and several aunts and uncles also survive.

    He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Lou Ida (Adams) Burke; and maternal grandparents, John F. Tackett and Sarah Hampton Collins.

      Funeral services will be 1pm Wednesday at the West Van Lear Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Burke Family Cemetery at Hager Hill. David Blevins will officiate. Friends may visit the church from 5pm to 9pm Monday, 9am to 9pm on Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday. Arrangements are by the Phelsp & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

       Minerva (Baisden) Perry, age 72 of Dunlow, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. Born January 29, 1943 in Mingo County, she was the daughter of Woodrow Baisden of Breeden, WV and the late Alma Collins Baisden. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Rosella (Perry) McCoy; one step son, Jason Perry; three sisters, Juanita Baisden, Rita King and Virginia Baisden. She is survived by her father, her husband Albert Perry; two sons, Albert Clayton (and Pat) of Kermit, WV and Norman (and Carolyn) of Breeden, WV; daughters, Alma Jean (and Mitchell) Hinkle of Delbarton, WV, Crystal (and Randy) Gilman of Lenore, WV, Katrina Bacha of Delbarton, WV, and step daughter, Tessa (and Junior) Hodge of Breeden, WV; brothers, Woodrow Baisden Jr of Breeden, WV and Odell (and Deana) Baisden of Breeden, WV; sisters, Deloris (and Andy) Perry of Columbus, Ohio, Linda (and Barry) Hughes of Columbus, Wanda (and Chuck) Pollinger of Ft. Gay, WV, Sheila Baisden of Columbus, Teresa (and Keith) Bare of Columbus; and brother in law, Kevin King; and son in law, David; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

 

      Funeral services will be 1pm Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Old Jennies Creek United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the General Perry Cemetery on Jennies Creek. Freddie Messer, Jr will officiate. Friends may visit the Church after 3pm Saturday and prior to the service on Sunday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

     Belle Ramey, age 85 of Paintsville, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Born February 2, 1930 in Johnson County to the late Blaine and Missouri Dale. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Cuder Ramey {1997}; one daughter, Linda Johnson. She is survived by two sons, Henry Ramey of Prestonsburg and Sam Ramey of Paintsville; eight daughters, Donna Lemaster of Hager Hill, Joyce Webb of Sitka, Pauline Blair of Paintsville, Patty McKenzie of Paintsville, Penny O'Brian of Winchester, Della Auxier of Hager Hill, Jenny Fraley of Van Lear, Prissa Mullins of Paintsville; one sister, Okie Lemaster of Flat Gap; thirty grandchildren, fifty-nine great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.  

     Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Calvary Church of God on Pine Street with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Willis Blair and Jason Auxier will officiate. Friends may visit at the church after 4pm on Thursday and all day Friday.In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Phelps & Son Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.     Richard Ivan Skaggs, age 59 of Thelma, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at his residence. Born December 28, 1955 in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of Leo and Ywan Jaynes Skaggs of Oil Springs, KY. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lena Blackburn Skaggs; one son, Jason Leo (and Brionna) Skaggs of Paintsville; two step daughters, Recie Darnell Taylor of Mt. Sterling, KY and Elizabeth Grace Wells of David, KY; one brother, Michael John Skaggs of Paintsville, KY; two sisters, Alisa Irene Skaggs of Oil Springs, KY and Sue Ellen Keaton of Wittensville, KY; and twelve grandchildren also survive. He is preceded in death by one son, Richard Ivan Skaggs, Jr.

     Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Family Cemtery. Steve Rose will officiate.      Gary Lee Castle, age 57 of Thealka, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at his home. Born July 19, 1958 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Henry and Alfair Smith Castle. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one brother, Richard Castle(wife, Tiny). He is survived by his wife, Pamela Lyons Castle; one son, Gary Matthew Castle of Paintsville; one daughter, Stacey Lee Castle of Paintsville; two brothers, James Castle and wife Mary Beth of Stambaugh, Michael Castle and wife Angie of Thealka; one sister, Patricia Fannin and husband Roger of Thealka; four grandchildren, Megan and Blake Vanhoose, Bailee Ratliff, and Sophia Castle. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

 

     Funeral services will be held 1pm Wedesday, December 23, 2015 at the Meally Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville. Greg Coleman, Larry Smith, and Roger Fannin will officiate. Friends may visit at the church after 5pm Monday and all day Tuesday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

     Jewell D. Stafford, age 70 of Inez, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Born September 22, 1945 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Samp and Lillian (Bowen) Maynard. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, James and Denford Maynard; and two sisters, Arlene Carter and Phyllis Maynard.

 

     She is survived by her husband, William Richard Stafford; two daughters, Vicki (and Lewis) Maynard of Inez, KY and Debbie (and John) Fultz of Flatwoods, KY; two sisters, Bonnie Maynard and Emma Gaye Fannin both of Inez, KY; eight grandchildren, DJ (April) , Zachary, Jordan, Alexis, JD, Rebecca, LJ, and Devin; five great grandchildren, Cameron, Destinee, Desiree, Dylan, and Cassidy; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

 

      Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Family Cemetery at Milo.       Patricia Kirk Cornett, age 47 of Louisa, Ky., passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015 at her residence. Born November 8, 1968 in Wyandotte, Michigan, she was the daughter of Ruth Moore of Pikeville and the late Russell (Pat) Fields. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by one brother, Jim Fields; and one sister, Brenda Fields. She is survived by her mother, one son, Joseph Howard of Pilgrim; one daughter, Heather Robinson of Lake, West Virginia; one brother, Thomas Fields of Wyandotte, Michigan; two sisters, Faye Copley of Inez and Lois Hamilton of Pikeville; and four grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be 2pm Monday, December 21, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Fields Cemetery. Denny Ray Moore will officiate.    Kenneth A. “Ken” Hickman, age 78, of Zelienople, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 while in the comfort of his own home.

 

Born June 11, 1937 in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Audery and Helen (Manning) Hickman.

 

Ken was a family man who was extremely compassionate and always put others first. He always had a smile on his face and knew how to crack a joke. He enjoyed being a member of the Big Knob Volunteer Fire Department. His biggest goal in life was to steer young people in the right direction. Ken will always be remembered for taking the time and effort to do the little things that made you feel special.

 

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Dorothy Hickman of Zelienople, whom he married on June 23, 1973; his sons, Kenneth Craig Hickman of North Carolina, Robert (Becky) Hickman of Columbus, OH, and Ronnie Osborne of Zelienople; his grandchildren, Holly (Matthew) Cook and Kenny (Debbie) Hickman; his great-grandchildren, Kendra Hickman and Cameron Cook; his second mother, Nancy Hickman, and his step-brother, David Myers, both of Seattle, WA.

 

The Hickman family will welcome friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Phelps-Son Funeral Home, Inc., 498 New Route 3, Inez, KY 41224.

 

Ken will be laid to rest at the Osborne Cemetery in Kentucky.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Big Knob Volunteer Fire Department, 1229 PA-989, Rochester, PA 15074

     James “Bug” Howard, age 80 of Debord, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at his home. Born May 12, 1935 in Johnson County, Kentucky, to the late Thomas and Julie Collins Howard. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Howard {Feb. 10, 1997}; one brother, Joe Edward Howard; five sisters, Myrl Ratliff, Elizabeth Howard, Betty Howard, Ella Setser, Ruth Evelyn Goble. He is survived by two sons, James M. Howard of Inez, Kentucky and Gregory Howard of Raleigh, North Carolina; two brothers, William Chester Howard of Inez, Kentucky, Johnny Ray Howard of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Rosemary Kelley of Blaine, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Michael Brandon Howard, Jason Howard, Brandy Michelle Harless, Melissa Howard, Samantha Howard, Annie Paulson; and three great grandchildren.

 

      Funeral services will be held 1pm Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Goble Cemetery at Debord. Roger Harless will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 3-9pm Monday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

    Doyle Moore, age 52 of Lovely, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. Born January 5, 1962 in Williamson, WV., he is the son of Arthur Ed Moore and Francis Maynard.

     In addition to his parents he is survived by two sons, Doyle David and Derrick Moore, both of Lovely; step-daughter, Andrea Maynard; and his companion, Leann Fish.

     Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Lovely Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Ed Moore Cemetery at Lovely. Lonnie Smith will be officiating. Friends may call from 4-10pm Sunday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

     Kally Patrick, age 61 of Beauty, passed away Wednesday December 2, 2015 in Batavia, Ohio. Born September 28, 1954 to the late Theo and Evelyn Bardolas Katras in Chicago, Illinois. She is survived by one son; Paul (Melissa) Patrick Jr. of Beauty, Ky: two grandchildren, Isaiah and Jacob Patrick of Beauty, Ky.

   Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday December 5,2015 at the Calvary Temple Church, Lovely, Ky. Burial will follow in the Moore Cemetery, Dye Bottom. Greg Crum will officiate. Friends may visit the church after 3 pm Friday and until time of services on Saturday.  Arrangements by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Inez.
