   Dale Edison (Eddie) Hamilton, age 70 of Inez, passed away Friday September 30, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital following a brief illness.

     Ed is preceded in death by his parents - Gail W. Hamilton of McKin, WV and Corrine Cassady Hamilton of Inez. Three brothers - Gail W. Hamilton, Jr of Columbus, Ohio, Granville Hamilton of Inez, KY, and Donovan Cassady Hamilton of Inez, KY; and his loving wife, Wilma Fitch Hamilton of Inez.

     Ed married the love of his life – Wilma on June 30, 1968. They were married thirty-nine years. Ed and Wilma had one child – Dale Edison Hamilton, JR (wife Missy) of Louisa, KY. He has two granddaughters – Kassandra Hamilton of Lovely, KY and Victoria Hamilton of Stepptown, WV and two step grandsons, Brady and Adam Cornette of Louisa, KY. Two brothers – Ronald Hamilton of McKin, WV and Dallas Hamilton of Inez, KY.

     Ed graduated from Inez High School in 1964. He was a helicopter crew chief in the United Stated Army serving in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. He was a decorated veteran of the war. Ed was employed by Martin County Coal Corporation for twenty six years.

     Anyone who knew Ed, knew that he loved his old antique cars, guns and knives. He was a member of VFW and several car clubs. Ed was a social man who loved to spend time with his family and friends.

     Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, October 3, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Cassady Family Cemetery at Inez. A military service will follow the funeral. Darrin Rice will officiate. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 4pm to 9pm on Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

    James L. “Ratchet” Charles, age 73 of Inez, Ky., passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. Born October 12, 1942 to the late Heze & Elizabeth (Block) Charles. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his ex-wife Phyllis Castle Charles, one son; Donnie E. Charles, five sisters; Arnette Spaulding, Addie Hall, Opal Lyons, Reno Jude, and Thelma Spaulding along with several nephews, a sister-in-law, brother-in-laws and best friend Tom Chaffins.

   He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Charles, three brothers; Bobby (Judy) Charles of Indiana, Bill (Phyllis) Charles and Johnny (Karen) Charles all of Ohio and several special members of the family; Kathey Carter, Carol Chapman, Dennis “Den Den” Hinkle, Pam Hinkle, Denise Chaffins, Ruby (Carter) Greenway and Sandy Mills Boyd.

   James was retired from Martin County Coal after 30+ years. He was loved by all who knew him.

   Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5-9 pm with a memorial service starting at 7 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

      Dellmes Honeycutt, age 85 of Auxier, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Riverview Health Care Facility in Prestonsburg. Born September 18, 1931 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Jimmy Honeycutt and Darcus Bowling Honeycutt. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Honeycutt {Nov. 10, 2008}; one brother: James Honeycutt; four sisters: Maxine King, Ella Jean Goble, Willa Dean Wells, Irene Pennington; three grandchildren. He is survived by three sons: Tommy Honeycutt and wife Sue of Auxier, Roger Honeycutt and wife Ethel of Martin, David Honeycutt and wife Cathlene of Tram; three daughters: Betty Jenkins and husband Eddie of Oil Springs, Rosie Ramey and husband Curt of Van Lear, Patricia Slone and husband Rodney of Oil Springs. Sixteen grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive. Dellmes loved hunting, fishing, gardening and birds.

     Funeral services will be held 1pm, Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Honeycutt Family Cemetery at Auxier. Bobby Joe Spencer and Manford Fannin will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-9pm and on Friday from 9am-9pm.    Thomas E. Thompson Sr. , age 71 of Inez, Ky. Born November 4, 1944 to the late Polly May (Smith) and George Thompson in Pikeville, Ky., left this world for his heavenly home on September 26, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Thomas moved to Chicago, Illinois at a very young age to find employment. He was employed at Nelsen Steel for 25 years.

He Joined the Carpenters Apprenticeship and became an active member of the local 1977 Carpenters Union in Las Vegas, Nevada. He became disabled and retired, relocating back East.

    Thomas had a love for automobiles. He was an avid fan o the Chicago Bears, the Chicago White Sox, asnd the UK Wildcats. Thomas would get much enjoyment from having his family around him. Always giving the best advice to his grandchildren and all he knew. Laughing and making others laugh because he always had a great sense of humor.

     He is survived by his devoted, loving wife Diana Pittsley Thompson of Inez, Ky., his one and only son, Tommy (Rose) Thompson Jr. of Inez, Ky., whom was always there for anything he wanted done or needed help with. Thomas depended on his wife and son for all his care after being diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

     He was prreceded in death by his father George Thompson, mother, Polly (May) Smith and stepfather, Hezekiah Smith, and serveral brothers and sisters from both of his families, Thompson and Smith.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Joe (Michelle) Thompson of Inez, Ky., Jordan Thompson of Peru, Indiana, Malynn Thompson of Peru, Indiana, Cody (Lisa) Mccoy of Pilgrim, Ky., and Collan McCoy of Pikeville, Ky., great-gandchildren; Jordan Jones, Billy Strickland, Summer Strickland and Paisley Jo Fabiano, brothers and sisters; Bobby (Christina) Thompson of Indiana, Donnie (Isabel) Smith of Florida, Geraldine Nilson of Illinois, Larry (Eisabelle) Smith of Inez, Ky., Linda Peters of Inez, Ky., Kenneth (Susan) Smith of California, Vanna May of Illinois, Kathy (Delmar) Henke of North Dakota, Danny ( Lena) Smith of Sidney, Ky., David (Phyllis) Smith of Indiana and Ricky (Cherise) Smith of Texas, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

     Of all his many accomplishments in life , the most important thing in his life was when he gave his life to God on November 1, 2015, physically unable to be baptized until July 24, 2016. He wil be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday September 30, 2016 at the Martin County Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Stanley officiating. There will be no public burial. Friends may visit the church after 5pm Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

     Eric Newberry, age 40 of Van Lear, Ky., passed away Friday September 23, 2016 at Paul B. Hall Medical Center. Born December 16, 1975 in Floyd County he was the son of Terry and Linda Richmond Newberry of Van Lear. 

 

     In addition to his parents he is survived by his companion Regina Lemaster of Van Lear and one son Grayson Newberry also of Van Lear.

 

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in the Phelps and Son Chapel with burial to follow in the Auxier Relocation Cemetery, Auxier, Ky. Roger Goble will be officiating. Friends can visit the funeral home from 4-9 pm Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville. In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Phelps & Son Funeral Home to defray funeral costs.

     Jamie Lee Fairchild, age 37 of Hager Hill, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Pikeville Medical Center.  Born March 14, 1979 in Johnson County, he was the son of Rena Mayhan White and step father, Zigler White of Hager Hill and the late James Robert Vaughan. In addition to his father, Jamie is preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucille Love Mayhan; aunts, Carol and Jane Fairchild; niece, Miranda Faye Mollett; and nephew, Caleb James Fairchild. He is survived by is mother and step father; his fiance, Carrie Blevins; one brother, Bobby Darrell Fairchild of Paintsville; three sisters: Nickie Endicott of West Van Lear, Debbie Mollett of Tutor Key, and Janet Hensley of Boonscamp; and several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts also survive.

 

     Funeral services will be 1pm Monday, September 26, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Dixon Cemetery at Staffordsville. Friends may visit the funeral home from 10am to 1pm Monday prior to the service.      Leonard Fannin Jr., age 88 of West Van Lear, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at his home. Born July 4, 1928 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Leonard and Maudie Smith Fannin. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death his wife of 37 years, Eunoka Perry Fannin {June 14, 1998}, three brothers and five sisters. He is survived by four sons: Jack Fannin and wife Veronica of Keaton, Billy Fannin and wife Vicky of Volga, Roger Fannin and wife Chris of Rochester, Indiana, Gary Fannin and wife Billie of West Van Lear; two daughters: Sheila Nelson and husband Ralph of Wabash, Indiana, Sherry Powers and husband Randy of Auxier; one brother: Herman Fannin and wife Joan of Chardon, Ohio. Ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

 

     He worked as a coal miner for 34 years and retired from Island Creek Coal Company in Martin County, Kentucky. He was a member of the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

 

      Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, September 24, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Manford Fannin will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5-9pm on Thursday and 9am-9pm on Friday. Funeral arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

     Bobby Hall, age 60, of Inez, Ky., passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Kings Daughters Medical Center. Born December 2, 1955 in Paintsville, Ky., he was the son of the late Malcom Hall and Earnestine Maynard Horn.

     He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna Parsley Hall of Inez, Ky., one son; Tyler Aaron Hall of Lexington, Ky., two daughters; Melissa Dawn Hall (Jason Jarrell) of Pilgrim, Ky., and Jaclyn Dawn Ruble (John May) of Lexington, Ky., two brothers; Jimmy (Darlene) Hall and Eugene Hall all of Louisa, Ky., four grandchildren; Skyla Rae and Hunter Brock Messer and Logan Chase, and Parker Cole Jarrell all of Pilgrim, Ky., several nieces and nephews, and several special friends with which he spent many hours riding in the hills and fishing, and his faithful companions Brutus, Shade and Shadow.

   Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Hall Family Cemetery, Inez. Danny Hall and Hubert Presley Jr. will be officiating. Friends may vist the funeral home from 5-9 pm Tuesday September 20, 2016.      Patricia Harlene Preston, age 76 of Van Lear, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Riverview Health Care Center in Prestonsburg. Born April 18, 1940 in Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Carl Keen and Edna Smith Keen. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Preston {May 16, 2008}. She is survived by two sons, Gary Preston and Billy Preston; one daughter, Connie Preston Mills; four brothers, Paul Keen, Harold Keen, Darrell Keen, and Jackie Bowling; one sister, Bonnie Keen. Six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.

     Graveside services will be held 11am Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville. Terry Reed will officiate. Funeral arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Paintsville.

   Ada Stepp, age 87 of Inez, passed away Friday September 9, 2016 at Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville. Born February 24, 1929 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Delbert Henry Kinner and Velma Dixon Kinner. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, James Potter; second husband, Russell Stepp, Sr; a special friend, Paul Butcher; infant daughter Potter; four brothers: Doug Kinner, Dan Kinner, Donald Kinner and Delbert Andrew Kinner; one sister, Bertha Webb; and one great gransdon, Mark Fraley.
      Ada is survived by one son, James Potter of Inez; two daughters, Sheila Potter Sites of Boonscamp and Marilyn Potter Wallen of Prestonsburg; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two step grandchildren also survive.
      A graveside service will be held 2:00pm Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Potter Family Cemetery at Catalpa, KY.  Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Terry Delone Castle, age 67 of Tutor Key, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at his home. Born September 12, 1948 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late Bascom Willard Castle and Maggie Fletcher Castle. Terry is survived by his wife, Minnie Johnson Castle; two sons, Zachary Scott Castle of Tutor Key and Mark Castle of Indiana; one brother, Barry Delmas (Nancy) Castle of Owenton, Kentucky; a special granddaughter, Kayla Alexandria Block of Tutor Key; two stepsons, Dockie Tolbert Block, and Sammy Edward (Tabby) Block, both of Kermit, West Virginia. Several grandchildren and family also survive.
      Terry was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a retired electrician in the coal mines. In addtion he was a member of the East Point Masonic Lodge #657. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

      Lois Gail Osborne Patrick, age 67 of Inez, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg. Born December 22, 1948 in Aflax, Kentucky to the late Homer and Gertrude Davis Osborne. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three brothers, Charles C., Robert Eugene, and Gary Lynn Osborne. She is survived by her son, William Arthur James (Megan Dawn) of Warfield; three brothers, Homer Lee Osborne of Gallipolis, Ohio, Billy Osborne of Ulysses, Kentucky, and Ronnie Osborne of Zelienople, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Agnes Louise Endicott of Tomahawk, Kentucky and Dorothy Mae Hickman of Zelienople, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Braxton Lee James and Daniel Arthur James.
      Funeral services will be held at 1pm Sunday, September 11, 2016 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Osborne Cemetery on Big Elk.  Phyllis Diann Davis, age 58 of Inez, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at her home. Born April 8, 1958 in Franklin County Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Stewart Preece Sr. and Ollie Nadine Robinson Preece. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ray Davis; one brother, Stewart Preece, Jr; and one sister, Greta Combs. She is survived by one son, Shawn Ray Davis of Inez; nieces, Ashley Graves and Brandy Riddle; sister in law, N...ella Green; great nephews, Tucker Graves, Rylee Graves and Brailey Trosper.

Robert Noel Perry, age 70 of Kermit, passed away Monday September 5, 2016 at his home in Warfield. Born April 19, 1946 in Mingo County, he was the son of the late Jennings Perry and Brookie Piggs Perry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers: Jennings Perry, Arthur Perry, General Perry, and Thurman Perry; and two sisters: Patty Booth and Betty Jane Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Hester Perry; three sons: Robert Noel Perry Jr and Billy... Ray Perry both of Kermit and Nikita Ray Perry of Ohio; one daughter: Lilly Marie Perry of Ohio; two brothers: Arnold Perry of Louisa and Dave Perry of Kermit; four sisters: Melvina Messer and Hannie Block both of Kermit, Ruth Whitt of Wayne County West Virginia, and Gracie Johnson of Martin County Kentucky; and ten grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 11am Thursday September 8, 2016 at the Old Jennies Creek United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Hodge Cemetery also on Jennies Creek.
