Verna Kaye Cole, age 71 of Prestonsburg, Kentucky passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Highlands ARH in Prestonsburg.
Born August 17, 1948 in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cole and Imogene (Martin) Cole. In addition to her parents, Verna is preceded in death by her husband, Jerald T. Stafford; and one brother, Tommy Cole.
She is survived by two step sons, Michael Stafford and Matthew Stafford; two step daughters, Rebecca Stafford and Elizabeth Perry; sister in law, Teresa Cole; niece, Sherri Lynn Crace; and great niece, Breonna Collins.
There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Jeremy Tyler Jude Jr., 4 month old infant son of Keshia Gillispie and Jamie Maynard of Tomahawk, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Kentucky. Jeremy was born December 17, 2019 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by one cousin, Loyd William Gillispie Jr.
In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters: Kailey Jude and Kara Jude; two brothers: Jamie Maynard and Axle Maynard; grandparents: Loyd and Mary Gillispie, Chad and Penny Maynard, James and Jeri Maynard, Lacy and Maria Jude; great grandparents: George and Sue McGinnis, Wanda and Jack Sartin, Jeffrey and Diane Maynard, and Maudie Mae Spence; uncles: Loyd William Gillispie and wife, Rhiannon, Lacy Lee Jude, and Matt Litton and wife, Mary; aunts: Rosemary Fuggett, Whitney Maynard, Elaine Stepp, and Keyera Maynard. Numerous cousins, great aunts, great uncles, and other family members also survive.
A private graveside service for the immediate family will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the Family Cemetery at Tomahawk, Kentucky. Brother Joe Hill will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Elaine Ferguson, age 69 of Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at her residence.
Born November 3, 1950 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Guar Ferguson and Gladys (Fyffe) Ferguson. In addition to her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by one son, Don McCarty; five brothers: Bob, Don, Clete, Hansford “Hampy”, and Jaimie Ferguson; and two sisters, Priscilla Ferguson and Rosemary Ferguson.
She is survived two sons, Roger McCarty II of Paintsville, Kentucky and Dwayne Blevins of Columbus, Ohio; five daughters: Lovelle McCarty of Paintsville, Kentucky, Tonya Blevins of Zanesville, Ohio, Gina Blevins of Van Lear, Kentucky, Brandy Ritchie of Salyersville, Kentucky, and Liz Jenkins of Paintsville, Kentucky; three brothers: Ralph Ferguson, Andy Ferguson and Algar Ferguson; two sisters, Lovell Greenwood and Nina Blythe; twenty-seven grandchildren, and several great grandchildren also survive.
A private graveside service for the immediate family will be held Thursday, April 30, 2020 at the Ferguson Family Cemetery at Martha, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Mitchell Murphy, age 69 of Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Born December 31, 1950 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Marion Murphy and Imogene Collins Murphy. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one brother, Mike Murphy and one sister, Donna Murphy. He is survived by two brothers: Steve Murphy of Jeffersonville, Kentucky and Tom Murphy of Thelma, Kentucky.

William Howard Yates, age 67 of Staffordsville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Georgetown Community Hospital.
Born February 15, 1953 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Howard C. “Rusty” Yates and Sue Avonell Elam. In addition to his parents, Mr. Yates is preceded in death by one sister, Natasha Yates; his paternal grandparents, Chet and Jewel Yates, maternal grandparents, Bill and Thelma Elam; father in law, Doug Melvin.
He is survived by his wife, Jessica (Melvin) Yates; mother, Maxine Yates oif Oil Springs, Kentucky; one son, Jason and Donna Fairchild of Paintsville, Kentucky; one daughter, Angie and Shawn Hall of River, Kentucky; two brothers, Charles Michael Yates of Oil Springs, Kentucky and Rusty Yates of Richmond, Kentucky; three sisters, Susie and Jeff Ellis of Van Lear, Kentucky, Paula Wheeler Risner of Wittensville, Kentucky and Cammy and Gary O'Bryan of Oil Springs, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Katelyn, Kiana, Kiley and Leah; mother in law, Kate Melvin; sisters in law, Cindy and Jim Brown and Gina and Jeff McFaddin; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.
There will be a private service for the immediate family Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Burial will follow in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Anna Pearl (Price) Atkinson, age 91 of Thelma, Kentucky, departed this life Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at her Home.
She was born September 14, 1928 to the late Ruth (Music) Price and James Price. She was married to Ashburn (Doc) Atkinson on March 30, 1980. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her previous husbands, Earl Travis (August 6, 1970) and Michael Thacker (May 23, 1979); and one daughter, Anna Ruth Travis.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Rita Kay Butcher (Samuel) of Thelma, Kentucky and Earleen Darby (Huey) of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; three step sons, Mitchell Atkinson (Denese) of Pikeville, Kentucky, Martin Atkinson (Patches) of Tazwell, Virginia and Kenneth Atkinson (Darlene) of Pikeville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and five step grandchildren also survive.
Anna Pearl was converted as a young woman and attended Concord United Baptist Church for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was very active in all community activities, serving on her local fire department, holding several positions in the Development Club, locally and statewide, and an active member in the Homemakers Club in her earlier years. She will be greatly missed by her family and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
A private service will be held April 23, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery at Thelma. Virginia (Turner) Ratliff, age 86 of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at her residence.
Born March 27, 1934 in Paintsville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John W. Turner and Pauline (Davis) Turner. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Roger Ratliff; one daughter, Joan Carol Williams; son in law, Eddie Michael Williams; and one sister, Joyce Penix.
She is survived by one son, John G. Ball and his wife, Carrie of Ocala, Florida; one daughter, Paula Peters and her husband, David of Paintsville, Kentucky; one brother, John G. Turner of Paintsville, Kentucky; one sister, Lois Adkins of River, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Cassie (Scott) Rowland, Chris Williams, Sean (Tammy) Williams, Matt (Amy) Williams, Ashlee Ball (Tommy) Hanshaw, David (Tina) Peters II, Mindy Schmitt and Kirby (Michelle) Risner, Jr; several great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Virginia was retired from the Internal Revenue Service and a member of the Southside Free Will Baptist Church. She was a 1952 graduate of Paintsville High School.
A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family Monday, April 20, 2020 at the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Wayne Price will officiate. Sally Ann (Clifton) Grimm, age 71, formerly of Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
Born December 31, 1948 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late George Clifton and Clestina (Ward) Clifton. In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grimm; two brothers, Jack Clifton and Gary Clifton; and two sisters, Judy Tackett and Cleo Music.
She is survived by two sons, David Grimm and his wife, Sonja of Jenkins, Kentucky and Charles Grimm and his wife, Melissa of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; one daughter, Virginia Marshall and her husband, Troy of Van Lear; two brothers, George (Ethel) Clifton, Jr of Wabash, Indiana and Clarence Allen (Nancy) Clifton of Flat Gap, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Chris (Tiffany) Grimm, Eric (Brittany) Grimm, Ashley (Jarrod) Litzinger, Chasity Grimm, Katelyn Grimm, Jessica (Adam) Beaty, Johnathon Sherman and Courtney Sherman; and a host of great grandchildren also survive.

Kimberly Williamson McCoy, age 48 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 at Highlands ARH in Prestonsburg.
Born February 8, 1972 in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late Denvil Williamson, Sr and Doris Jewel (Gannon) Williamson. She is survived by her husband, Devada McCoy; two sons, Mykel Reynolds and Tyler Butcher; one step son, Richard McCoy; two daughters, Vanessa Webb and Sally Webb; two step daughters, Ruby Martin and Loretta Fletcher; granddaughter, Inelee Butcher; step grandson, Brandon McCoy; one brother, Denvil Williamson (and Lisa); four sisters, Sandra Collins (David Johnson), Dalene Stanley (Daniel), Janet Stiltner (Johnny) and Neitha Spurlock (John); and two special friends, Loraine Johnson and Reba Butcher and many other family and friends also survive.

Michael Ward, age 69 of Prestonsburg, Kentucky passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 at his residence. Born October 1, 1950 in Johnson County, Kentucky he was the son of Erma Lee Hayes Ward of Paintsville, Kentucky and the late Burl Ward. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Halbert Ward and one brother, Harold “Boone” Ward.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Ward is survived by one daughter, Jamie Ward Minix of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; two stepsons: Michael Banks of Martin, Kentucky, Patrick Banks of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Sharon Scott of Offutt, Kentucky; six grandchildren: Grant Minix, Walker Minix, Taylor Trout, Lindsay Banks, Haley Banks, and Emma Banks.
Mr. Ward was the owner/operator of Jenny Wiley Florist in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
A private graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Tommy Reed will officiate. Charles Darrel Reed, age 76 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington. Born May 5, 1943 in Chester, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Reed and Hazel Vanhoose Reed. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter, Bronda Tackett; four brothers: Howard Reed, Robert Reed, Milburne Reed and Edwin Reed; one sister, Wanda Stapleton; along with two grandchildren.
Darrel is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Keaton Reed; two sons: Scott Reed and wife, Kristina of Paintsville, Paul Reed and wife, Angela of Thealka; one daughter, Rhonda Williamson of Salyersville; one brother, Donald Reed of Nippa; two sisters: Lillian Gamble of Flat Gap, Wilma Collins and husband, Wendell of East Point. Eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also survive.
Private funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Mike and Doris Blevins will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

William Michael “Mike” Burchett, age 54 of Nippa, Kentucky passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his residence. Born October 21, 1965 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Billy O. Burchett and Mary Lee (Ramey) Burchett.
Mike is survived by two uncles, Johnny Ramey and his wife Cheryl of Nippa, and Walt Williams also of Nippa; one aunt, Sue Salyer of Nippa; cousins: Barb Burkett, Teresa McFaddin, Cherie Deskins, John Ramey, Susie Music-Colburn, Amy Case, LeighAnn Jeffiers and Nick Salyer, Don Fyffe (Carolyn Fyffe), Yvonne McCarty, Marina Burchett, Lisa Daniels, Tammy Burchett Pruitt, Debbie Ratliff-Curts and Chuck Ratliff; and numerous extended family and close friends who loved him very much.
He was retired from the Johnson County P.V.A. office.

Beverly Ann Jackson, age 82 of Staffordsville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born January 19, 1938 in Kingsport, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Morrison, and her husband, Robert Jackson.
She is survived by her son, Mike Morrison and his wife, Rita of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Michael Morrison and wife Brandi of Georgetown, Kentucky and Jenny McDonald and husband, Tim of Paintsville, Kentucky; five great grandchildren: Bryson Morrison, Paisley Morrison, Kash Morrison, Bryce McDonald and Bo McDonald.
