    Paul E. Blair, age 74 of Meally, Kentucky passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

     Born September 30, 1945 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Dexter and Bessie (Hitchcock) Blair. Mr. Blair is survived by one daughter, Lena (and Greg) Humphrey of Gahanna, Ohio; one son, Paul E. Blair, Jr (and Laura) of Ravenna, Ohio; one brother, Elmer Carrol Blair (and Juanita) of Hager Hill, Kentucky; four sisters, Linda Caudill (and Phillip) of Oil Springs, Kentucky, Ruby Evelyn Conley of Paintsville, Kentucky, Goble C. James (and Roy) of Columbus, Ohio and Wilma Jean Underwood (and Jim) of Gahanna, Ohio; one grandchild, Chase A. Baltzer (and Eva); and two great granddaughters also survive.

     Funeral services will be 11:00am Sunday, August 2, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memroail Park, Staffordsville. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Saturday and until the time of service on Sunday. Kenny Pelphrey and Mitchell Spradlin will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Iris Faye (Thompson) Sneed, age 64 of Louisa, Kentucky passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 at University of Kentucky Health Care Facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

     Born November 8, 1955 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late John Thompson and Ruby (Cordle) Thompson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Anderson Sneed; and siblings, Bernita Gay, Doris Leigh, Betty Ann and Randall Lee Thompson.

     She is survived by three duaghters, Tammy (Sam) Sprinkle of Ashland, Kentucky, Juanita (David Hicks) Proctor of Prestonsburg, Kentucky and Jenny Marie Howard of Cold Springs, Kentucky; three sons, James (Vanessa) Keeton of Louisa, Kentucky, Jason (Danielle) Keeton of Staffordsville, Kentucky and Chalres Zachary Sneed of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; brothers, Ernest Thompson and Russell Thompson; twenty-one grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

     A Graveside Service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at the Mary's United Baptist Church Cemetery, (951 Right Fork George's Creek Road, Louisa, Kentucky). Jimmy Horn will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Carrie Howell, age 89 of Prestonsburg, Kentucky passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 in West Liberty, Kentucky. Born October 16, 1930 in Floyd County, Kentucky, to the late Tobe Perry and Eva Burchett Perry. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Howell; twin brother, Harry Perry, brother, Tom Perry; and sister, Marie Rice.

     She is survived by two daughters: Diana Whitt of West Liberty, Kentucky, and Sondra Clifton of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Melissa Blackburn, Raven Ross, Lacy Gulick, Nicholas Hughes, Amanda Hughes, Joshua Clifton, Tiffany Clifton; fifteen great grandchildren: Cortney Ross, Drake Ross, Jackson Ross, Ally Ross, Alyssa Gulick, Gage Gulick, Christopher Gulick, Charles Daniels, Brinley Clifton, Braylon Clifton, Charles Diskey, Christopher Diskey, Caiden Diskey, Baby Diskey(on the way), Baby Clifton(on the way).

     Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at the Little Paint First Church of God (671 Little Paint Creek, East Point, KY 41216). Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Kentucky. Friends may visit at the church on Tuesday from 10:00am until time of services at 2:00pm.      Larry D. Herald, of Paintsville, KY died early on July 21, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. Larry was born in Prestonsburg, KY on January 20, 1948, the son of the late William and Josephine Scutchfield Herald. He is survived by his wife Karen Conley Herald, son Tim Herald, daughter Betsy Herald, daughter-in-law Alka Herald and grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Varney and Will and Drew Herald. He was a dedicated and loving family man. He was very attentive to his parents when they were sick and in the nursing home, and he was a proud father and grandfather.
     Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time in the outdoors with his family. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for decades and served on the Board of Trustees for several years. Larry loved his church and was regularly in attendance until he became ill.
From 1982-1994 he was the successful business owner of Herald Oil and Equipment and a trucking company. From 1998-2012, Larry was the manager of Paintsville Utilities. In this capacity, he served on many state and national boards. He was on the KY Gas Assoc. Board of Directors from 1999-2012 and was president in 2003-2004. American Public Gas Assoc. Board of Directors 2001-2011, and their Insurance Group in 2009-2011. Kentucky Rural Water Assoc. Board of Directors 2005-2012, and served as Secretary 2006-2008, Vice-President 2008-2010, and President 2010-2012.
In his capacity at Paintsville Utilities, one of Larry’s biggest concerns was using the Big Sandy River as the community’s water source. After years of work, he was able to secure an agreement with the US Corps of Engineers to build a much-needed water plant utilizing Paintsville Lake as a new and much cleaner water source.
     Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Phelps and Son Funeral Home, 1701 Euclid Ave, Paintsville, Kentucky.  All services will be held at a later date.  Memorial Donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Paintsville.




 

     Jackie Ann Sicely, age 66 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Born February 6, 1954 in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Reece Prater and Patty Sue (May) Barker. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one son, Joshua Noah May; one brother, Mike Barker, and one brother-in-law, Glen Mims.

     She is survived by her husband, Darell Sicely; one son, Uriah May of Russell, Kentucky; one daughter, Angela Cantrell; two brothers: Lundy Ray Barker of Van Lear, Kentucky, and Martin Barker of Portsmouth, Ohio; two sisters: Vernadine Mims of Pikeville, Kentucky and April Blankenship and her husband, Richard of Thelma, Kentucky.

     Per the request of Mrs. Sicely there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     James E. Hunt, age 76 of East Point, Kentucky passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at his residence.

     Born October 14, 1943 in Grayson, Kentucky he was the son of the late Ernest Hunt and Myrtle (Crum) Hunt. Mr. Hunt is survived by is wife, Barbara (Moore) Hunt; one son, James A. “Tony” Hunt and his wife, Kelli of Georgetown, Kentucky; one daughter, Amy Marie Turner and her husband, Allen of East Point, Kentucky; three grand daughters, Jacee Baker, Kendyl Baker and Harper Hunt also survive.

     James was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired from CSX Railroad after 32 years of service.

     Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, July 20, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Tommy Reed will officaite. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 9:00pm Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Chapter 18 D.A.V. of Auxier will conduct full Military Honors at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Mary Sue (Harmon) Williams, age 74 of Oil Springs, Kentucky passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020 at her residence. Born January 20, 1946 in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Quill Harmon and Aretta Stapleton Harmon. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by three brothers: Charles Harmon, Quill Dickie Harmon, Thomas Dean “Harpo” Harmon; four sisters: Betty Smith, Neva Griffith, Pat Skiles, and Brenda Thompson.

     Sue is survived by her husband, Elwood “Bill” Williams; five children: Anthony Alan Williams and wife, Jamie of Sanford, North Carolina, Paul Burchett and wife, Gaylena of Wittensville, Kentucky, Jeffrey Scott Williams and wife, Kimberly of Abingdon, Virginia, Melissa Williams Swartzlander and husband, Larry of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Michelle Leigh Lashelle of Baltimore, Ohio. Eight grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

     Funeral services will be held 10:00am Sunday, July 19, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Kentucky. Paul David Coleman will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00pm-9:00pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     *The family has requested visitors to adhere to the new “Executive Order” issued by the Governor, all persons attending the visitation or funeral will be required to wear a face covering of some sort.*

    Marilyn Ruth Enas, 86, of Redbush, KY passed away peacefully on July 13, 2020. She resided in the home of her son, Phillip A. Brewer, daughter-in-law, Susan (Christensen) Brewer, and their three boys, Luke, Lincoln, and Levi who provided loving care for Marilyn for five years as her health declined.
    Her entire family is deeply grateful for the personal loving care she received in their home. Marilyn was born to parents Marjorie (DePotty) Birdsall and Albert H. Birdsall, on April 10, 1934, in Livonia, Michigan. She was the youngest of five children. Her siblings were Richard Birdsall, Ken Birdsall, Gordon Birdsall, and Marjorie Fett. All have gone to be with the Lord, and we are sure they have welcomed Marilyn to a heavenly family reunion.
     Marilyn grew up in Livonia, MI, and graduated from Bentley High School in 1952. She went on to obtaina Bachelor of Science in Biology from Asbury University and a Medical Technology Degree from Michigan State University Marilyn met her first husband, David H. Brewer, M.D., while they were both students at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. She and David courted through their college years and married after graduation. Marilyn worked as a Medical Technologist while David completed his Pediatric training at the University of Michigan. They moved to Columbus, Indiana, where Marilyn enjoyed being a mother, wife, artist, and raising multiple Schnauzer dogs, all named Heidi. She was an art teacher and created many watercolor and oil paintings. Even as her health deteriorated, she continued to create beautiful artwork.
     David and Marilyn had six children, Tim (Rhonda), Jon (Sandy), Janice (Jeff), Phillip (Susan), James (DeAnn), and Jayson (Jen). Additionally, they had 17 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and another grandson to be born in November. After forty-two wonderful years of marriage, her husband David passed away. Later her son, Jon, and his friend, Greg Enas, introduced Marilyn to Greg’s father, Jeffrey G. Enas after his wife Dorothy passed away. Marilyn and Jeff courted for a little over a year and they soon felt that God had provided their relationship as a gift and married in 1997. Through this second marriage, Marilyn gained six stepchildren Greg (Kim) Enas, Raymond (Ruth) Enas, Gordon (Kathy) Enas, Joel (Ruth) Enas, Nathan (Ginny) Enas, Jennifer (Jim) Sartin, 29 grandchildren, and multiple great grandchildren. Jeff and Marilyn were married for 18 years prior to Jeff going home to be with the Lord. Marilyn was preceded in death by her first husband, David H. Brewer, second husband, Jeffrey G. Enas, son, Timothy W. Brewer, and stepson, Joel D. Enas.

     Emma “Ruby” Scalf, age 80 of Tomahawk, Kentucky passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Dawson Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. Born June 11, 1940 in Pike County, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Columbus Ratliff and Ella Adkins Ratliff. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Bascome Scalf; ten brothers: Ray Ratliff, Harvey Ratliff, Phillip Ratliff, Robbie Ratliff, Jake Ratliff, Ralph Ratliff, Joe Ratliff, Hoover Ratliff, Freeman Ratliff, and Denver Ratliff; and three sisters: Marie Beechler, Hazel Ratliff, and Mary Robinson.
     She is survived by one sister, Sylvia Springsteen of West Virginia. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.
     Graveside services will be held 11:00am Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Mills Cemetery at Tomahawk, Kentucky. Claude Mollett, Maurice Mills and Walker Fields will officiate. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Phelps & Son Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses @ (606)789-8989.      Cindy (Meek) Collins, age 49 of Oil Springs, Kentucky passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020.

     Born January 17, 1971 in Paintsville, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Millard Allen Meek and Mable (Adams) Meek. In additon to her parents, Cindy is preceded in death by her husband, Larry David Collins; brother in law, Dr. Bradley Grant Collins; and father in law, Larry Grant Collins.

     She is survived by her daughter, Louanna “Annie” Collins of Oil Springs,  Kentucky; sister and best friend, Jenny (Witten) May of Sitka, Kentucky; honorary son, Zachary Salyers of River, Kentucky; three sisters, Deborah Meek of Paintsville, Kentucky, Lisa (and J.R.) Salyers of Staffordsville, Kentucky and Misty (Meek) Barker of Van Lear, Kentucky; mother in law, Anna Rose Collins of Oil Springs, Kentucky; brother in law, Johnathon Baretto of Simpsonville, South Carolina; nieces and nephews, Matthew Allen Barker, Chelsey Salyers Bray (and Tanner), Zachary Adams (and Katie) Salyers, Macey Salyers Stewart (and Jordan), Daniel Ray Greene (and Jessica), Mattison Greene Barnett (and Tyler), James Brandon May (and Brianna), Jared Mitchell May (and Kandyce) and Alexandria Elizabeth May.

     Funeral services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, July 8, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville. J.R. Salyers and Zachary Salyers will officiate. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 3:00pm to 9:00pm Tuesday and 9:00am to 1:00pm Wednesday prior to the service.
