     Deloris Mae (Pennngton) Burke, Granny, age 76 of Daniels Creek, Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born December 21, 1943 in Sidney, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Bailey and Irene Honeycutt Pennington. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Perry Burke; daughter, Sherry Lynn Slone; sister, Wilma Marie Bowens; brothers: Harry Pennington, Raymond Pennington, Kenneth Pennington, Charles Pennington and Jake Pennington.

     Deloris is survived by her children: Gregory Steven Burke of Staffordsville, Kentucky, Linda Sue Smith of Van Lear and Kevin Burke also of Van Lear; a very special daughter in law, Misty Burke; grandson, Nathan Smith; granddaughter, Lakin Taylor; two brothers, Ellis (Frankie) Pennington and Gary (Mary) Pennington; three additional grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren also survive.

 

     A private visitation will be held for the immediate family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Billie Arms, age 90 of East Point, Kentucky passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at his residence. Born January 30, 1930 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Elijah Arms and Martha Collins Arms. In addition to his parents, Mr. Arms is preceded in death by two brothers, Luke Arms and Charles Arms; three sisters, Minnie Arms, Mae Page and Gladys Marie Baker; one daughter in law, Edna Arms; one son in law, Bill Collins; and three grandchildren.

 

     He is survived by his wife, Malta Tackett Arms; five sons: Robert Alvin (Charlene) Arms of East Point, James Arthur Arms of East Point, Clarence Allen Arms of Warsaw, Indiana, Steven Alexander Arms of Mount Sterling, Kentucky and William Aaron Arms of East Point; three daughters: Martha Ann Collins of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Mary Alice Patton of Lexington, Kentucky and Shirley Annett (Terry) Castle of Prestonsburg; two brothers: James (Alfrida) Arms of Aurora, Colorado and Elvie “Bob” Arms of Paintsville, Kentucky; two sisters: Josephine Arms of Tutor Key, Kentucky and Betty Sue Salyers of Paintsville; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive.

 

     A private funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Arms Family Cemetery at Bear Hollow, East Point. Glen Kirk will officiate. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 9:00pm Monday, 9:00am to 9:00 pm Tuesday and until the time of service on Wednesday. Auxier Chapter 18 D.A.V will conduct Military Honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Kenny G. Kirk, age 58 of Lowmansville, Kentucky passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville. Born March 27, 1961 in Clarion, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Evelyn Edmons Kirk of Columbus, Ohio and the late George Kirk. In addition to his father, Mr. Kirk is preceded in death by one daughter, Wendy Johnston.

 

     He is survived by his wife, Raygenia (Daniel) Kirk of Lowmansville; father in law, Arvle Daniel of Lowmansville; mother, Evelyn Kirk; children, Mandy Lockhart and husband, Julian, Kenny Kirk, Jr, James Layton, Michael Layton all from Ohio, and Christina Moore of Lowmansville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Makayla, Julian, Sierra, Ariel, Jadyn, Dakota, Deanju, Joyce, Sid, Antonia, Cherish, Aryan, Abigail, Kristen, Dailyn, Hailie, Christa and Trinity.

 

     Mr. Kirk was a seventeen year veteran of the United States Army, and a member of the W.R. Castle Fire Department and Tabernacle of Praise church member.

 

     Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday, March 15, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the J.M. Castle Cemetery at Lowmansville. Jimmy Horn will officiate. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 9:00pm Saturday and after 9:00 am Sunday. Auxier Chapter 18 D.A.V. will conduct full Military Honors. W.R. Castle firefighters will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Daniel S. Fletcher, age 60 of Debord, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Born August 10, 1959 in Richmond, Virginia to Delilah Fletcher and the late John Fletcher. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by two brothers, Denzil Fletcher and Tom Fletcher; one sister, Anna Louise Bowen; and one stepson, Tommy Horn.

     In addition to his mother, Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Dempsey Fletcher; two stepsons: Buddy Horn and Fred Horn; two brothers: Millard Fletcher, John P. Fletcher; three sisters: Ernestine Newsome, Geraldine Jennings, and Rebecca Fletcher. Four grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Richardson Chapel located at 31 KY RT 2033, Louisa, KY. Burial will follow in the Moore Cemetery at Debord, Kentucky. Tommy Meade will officiate. Friends may visit at the church on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 6:00pm-10:00pm and after 9:00am on Saturday prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

      James Scott Adams, age 29 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Lexington. Born July 28, 1990 in Johnson County, he was the son of Janet (Jackson) Ratliff and James Ratliff of Clay City, Kentucky and the late Scott Wayne Adams. In addition to his mother and step father, Scott is survived by one son, Ashton Blake Skeens of Clay City; four sisters; Natasha Kaitlynn Adams of Paintsville, Kaitlyn Ratliff, Courtney Ratliff and Shandra Ratliff of Clay City; two brothers, Jared Ratliff and Dalton Ratliff both of Clay City; uncles and aunts, Mike “Pooh Bear” and Becky Adams, Sol and Terressa Jackson, Janice and Michael Collins and Jim Chatman; paternal grandmother, Janet Pennington of Paintsville; paternal, Don and Sherry Adams of Flat Gap; maternal, James and Alma Jackson of Riceville; great grandmother, Martha Selvage of Paintsville; and step grandfather, Wayne Pennington.

      Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Jackson Family Cemetery at Riceville. Steve Rose will officiate. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 9:00pm Monday and anytime prior to the service on Tuesday.      Lloyd Alvis Banks, age 80 of Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Highlands ARH in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

Born January 6, 1940 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late George Banks and Eula Mae (Boyd) Banks. In addition to his parents, Lloyd is preceded in death by one daughter, Bethany Reeseman; one grand daughter, Maranda Leigh Burt; one step son, Matthew Murrell; and eleven brothers and sisters.

     He is survived by his wife, Delores (Spradlin) Banks of Van Lear; two sons, Darrell (and Karen) Banks of Van Lear, Kentucky and Randy (and Mary) Banks of Thelma, Kentucky; one daughter, Darlene (and Ervin) Ramey of Van Lear; one sister, Nila Collins of Van Lear; one brother, Bobby Banks of Hager Hill; seven grandchildren: Rusty Banks, Joshua Banks, Jeremy Banks, Jeff Ramey, Sydney and Samuel Reeseman and Robin Berezansky; ten great grandchildren: Jaxton and Jenson Banks, JT and Jacob Banks, Cassidy and Alexandria Ramey, Alaina and Connor Banks, Peyton and Landon Berezansky; and one step son, Daniel Murrell.

     Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Webb – Butcher Cemetery at Van Lear. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 1:00pm to 9:00pm Friday and until the time of service on Saturday.  Paul Wayne Browning and Roger Hill will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Phelps & Son Funeral Home in memory of Lloyd. Auxier Chapter 18 DAV will conduct full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
