     Peggy Marie Wiley Waller, age 69 of Wittensville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at the Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Pikeville, Kentucky. Born January 29, 1951 in Johnson County she was the daughter of the late Lesco Music and Bertha Castle Music. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one daughter, Bobbi Renee Wiley and several brothers and sisters.

     She is survived by one daughter, Denice Franklin and husband, Mark of Tennessee. Several brothers and sisters also survive, along with several grandchildren.

     A private service was held for Mrs. Waller with burial in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Kentucky. Arrangements by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Stephen Meek, age 64 of Stambaugh, Kentucky passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.

     Born December 12, 1955 in Johnson County, he was the son of Ruth (Mills) Meek of Paintsville, Kentucky and the late Homer Meek. In addition to his father, Stephen is preceded in death by one sister, Tonya McDavid.

     Mr. Meek is survived by his mother; his wife, Michelle (Davis) Meek; one son, Brennen Meek, and his wife Beth of Paintsville, Kentucky; two brothers, Gary Richard (Pam) Meek of River, Kentucky and James (Jenny) Meek of Meally, Kentucky; two sisters, Vickie K. (Phil) Daniel of River, Kentucky, Twana (Edmond) Hickman of Boonscamp, Kentucky; brother in law, Rick McDavid of Grayson, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.

     Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Sparks Cemetery at Blaine, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 9:00pm Monday, 5:00pm to 9:00pm Tuesday and until the time of service on Wednesday. Brett Martin and Randy Martin will officiate with Isaac Rowland and Edmond Hickman ministering. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Earnest Bill Dyer, age 85 of Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born May 29, 1934 in Wayne, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Jennings Dyer and Sletha Adkins Dyer. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Matthews Dyer; one brother and three sisters.

     Bill is surived by his wife, Garnett Fairchild Dyer; one son, Bill Dyer and wife, Derica of Hager Hill, Kentucky; two daughters: Jeanne Lemaster and husband, John of Hager Hill, Kentucky, and Paula Hall and husband, Hassel of Van Lear, Kentucky; four stepchildren: Jim Anderson and wife, Pam, Mike Anderson and wife, Bonnie, Jack Anderson and wife, Alma, Judy Williams and husband, Danny; three grandchildren: Josh Scott and wife, Kim, Rebecca Taylor and husband, Tony, Whitney Sowards and husband, Rocky; ten step-grandchildren, five geat-grandchildren, twenty-four step great-grandchildren, and two step great-great-grandchildren.

     Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Friday, May 29, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Kentucky. Bill Osborne and Danny Williams will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00pm-9:00pm and on Friday after 9:00am until time of services.     Barbara Sue Vanhoose, age 70 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at her residence.

    Born August 13, 1949 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Windell “Nig” Blanton and Blanche (Holbrook) Blanton. In addition to her parents, Barb is preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Blanton; and one sister, Sandra Abrams.

    She is survived by one son, Mickey Vanhoose and his wife Stephanie of Paintsville, Kentucky; one daughter, Robyn Vanhoose of Paintsville, Kentucky; three brothers, John Michael (Teresa) Blanton of Grove City, Ohio, Terry Wendell Blanton of Paintsville, Kentucky, Brian David (Amy) Blanton of Grove City, Ohio; three sisters, Debbie Blanton of Paintsville, Kentucky, Judy (Jimmy) Frazier of Staffordsville, Kentucky, and Nikki McCarty of Cocoa, Florida; five grandchildren, Grant Vanhoose, Davis Vanhoose, J.T. Vanhoose, Camryn McCarty and Trevor McCarty; and brother in law, Sam Abrams of Cocoa, Florida.

    Funeral services will be 2:00pm Sunday, May 31, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Staffordsville Church Cemetery. Mike Blanton, Terry Blanton and Brian Blanton will officiate.  Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 6:00pm to 9:00pm Friday, 9:00am to 9:00pm Saturday and until the time of service on Sunday.      Joseph Wilson, age 85 of Keaton, Kentucky passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at Highlands ARH in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Born December 14, 1934 in Martin County, Kentucky to the late Claude Wilson and Dora Beverly Wilson. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Hattie McKenzie Wilson; three brothers: Ivan Wilson, Howard Wilson, Reuel Wilson; and one sister, Arlene Markin.

     He is survived by three sons: Steven Wilson of Keaton, Kentucky, Greg Wilson of Richmond, Kentucky, and Jimmy Wilson of Martha, Kentucky; four brothers: Lowell Wilson, Terry Wilson, Anthony Wilson, and Gary Wilson; five sisters: Ernestine Spradlin, Delia Howard, Naomi Coleman, Lois Doone, and Rosemary Levisay. Nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.

     A celebration of life for Joe will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Vonlee “Duke” Wells, age 72 of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

     Born September 5, 1947 in Martin County, he was the son of the late Curtis Spence and Earnestine (Wells) Spence. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Linda and Brenda Spence.

     Mr. Wells is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda (Mayse) Wells; one son, Mark Wells and wife Kimila of Murfreesboro, Tn; one daughter, Sheila Blankenship, and her husband Tim of Grethel, Kentucky; five brothers, Dallas (Judy) Spence of Inez, Kentucky, Danny (Kim) Spence of Ulysses, Kentucky, Bobby (Donna) Spence of Hager Hill, Kentucky, Curtis (Debbie) Spence Jr. of Meally, Kentucky and Gary (Michelle) Spence of Flat Gap, Kentucky; two sisters, Carolyn (Sheridan) Booth of Inez, Kentucky and Diane Whitt of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

     He resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan for many years working for the University of Michigan as an environmental service worker.

     Funeral services will be 11:00am Sunday, May 24, 2020 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Spence Family Cemetery at Flat Gap. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 9:00pm Saturday and until the time of service on Sunday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Blanche Holbrook Blanton, age 91 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at her residence. Born July 30, 1928 n Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Ambrose Minton Holbrook and Martha Adams Holbrook. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Windell “Nig” Blanton; one son, Bobby Blanton; one daughter, Sandra Abrams; one brother, Homer Holbrook; four sisters: Gertrude Howard, Pauline Castle, Charles Irene Holbrook, and Nellie Scott; one grandson, Scottie Abrams.

     She is survived by three sons: John Michael Blanton and wife, Teresa of Grove City, Ohio, Terry Wendell of Paintsville,Kentucky, Brian David Blanton and wife, Amy of Grove City, Ohio; four daughters: Debbie Blanton of Paintsville, Kentucky, Judy Frazier and husband, Jimmy of Staffordsville, Kentucky, Barb Vanhoose of Paintsville, Kentucky, Nikki McCarty of Cocoa, Florida; one son-in-law, Sam Abrams of Cocoa, Florida; one sister, Mollie Griffith of Winchester, Kentucky. Thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.

     Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Sunday, May 24, 2020 at the First Freewill Baptist Church on 3rd Street with burial to follow in the Staffordsville Church Cemetery. Brian Blanton, Terry Blanton, and Mike Blanton will officiate. Friends may visit at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00-9:00pm, Saturday from 9:00am- and on Sunday after 1:00pm at the church.      Samuel David Collins, Sr., age 49 of Martha, Kentucky passed away Friday, May 15, 2020 at his residence. Born August 19, 1970 in Johnson County, Kentucky he was the son of Rosemary Keaton Honeycutt of Martha, Kentucky and the late Floyd Allen Collins.

     He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Doolin Collins; stepfather, Joe Lee Honeycutt of Martha, Kentucky; four sons: Floyd Allen Collins II (Madison Paige Moore) of Martha, Kentucky, Samuel David Collins, Jr. (Tracey Watson) of Plain City, Ohio, Wayne Douglas Collins (Jessica Marie) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Emery Thomas Collins (Shelby Lynn) of Webbville, Kentucky; one brother, Stacy Collins of Van Lear, Kentucky; four sisters: Stephanie Rosalee Cisco of Martha, Kentucky, Julie Ann Collins of Van Lear, Kentucky, Lora Jean Elam of West Liberty, Kentucky, Teresa Joe Honeycutt of Louisville, Kentucky. Nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

     A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Collins Cemetery at Martha, Kentucky. James Doolin, J.J. Doolin, Russell Moore, and Curt Howard will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Roy Douglas “Santa” Picklesimer, age 70 of Meally, Kentucky passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at his residence.

    Born February 6, 1950 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Leroy Picklesimer and Pauline (Oney) Picklesimer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Sally M. Picklesimer; one great grandchild, Christian Stamper; and brother in law, John Burchett.

    He is survived by his wife, Allie B. Gibbs (Hayden) Picklesimer; three step children, Teresa (William) Spicer of Oklahoma, Michelle (Scott) Dale of Meally, Kentucky and Angela Belcher of Richmond, Indiana; one brother, William Joseph (Lovetta) Picklesimer of Wabash, Indiana; two sisters, Norma Lee Burchett of Staffordsville, Kentucky and Linda (Robert) Collins also of Staffordsville, Kentucky; five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

    Mr. Picklesimer was a veteran of the United States Army for thirteen years and enjoyed playing santa during Christmas.

    A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Reed Family Cemetery at Staffordsville. Jerry Scott, J.R. Salyers and Robert Collins will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Ruby Carol Witten, age 88 of Sitka, Kentucky passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at her residence. Born February 17, 1932 at Kerz, Kentucky in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Hayslett and Jocie Crider Hayslett. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson (Jr.) Witten, one daughter, Carolyn Kay Witten and two sons, Kenneth Michael Witten and, Thomas Gerald Witten. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Otto E. (Bud) Hayslett, Paul Hayslett and Douglas (Red) Hayslett, and three sisters, Rena Jones, Barbara (Curly) Blair and Delores (Dotty) Blair.
     She is survived by three sisters, Malta Vargo of Flat Gap, KY, Phyllis Conley of Oil Springs, KY, and Jan (Paul) Greiner of Paintsville, KY. Ruby was a beloved Mother and survived by seven children Sharon (Winfrey) Conley of Van Lear, KY, and Connie (Stanley) Blevins, Cletus Joe (Dedra) Witten and Karen McClure all of Sitka, KY, Ernest (Beverly) Witten of Union Mills, NC, Berletta Sue (Roger) Thornhill of Urbana, OH, and Paulette (Pete) Wilkins of Brooksville, FL. Ruby was also Nanny to eighteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and fourteen great, great grandchildren.
Ruby was not only loved and cherished by her family but also by the many friends she made over the years while working at Tropical Isle Tanning Salon. She will be greatly missed.
     A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Kentucky. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

     Eva N. Meeks, age 86 of Waterford, Michigan, formerly of Paintsville, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Grover; Loving mother of Priscilla (Butch) Shelton, Grover (Jackie) Meeks, Jr. and Wanda (Thom) Smith; Dear sister of Delphine Meek, Beryle (Lucille) Mollette and the late Tishalene Wilcox and the late Grethel Walters; Cherished grandmother of Kim (Tim), Tracey, Shawna Kay, Amy Renee, Steven Ray, Stephanie Dawn and the late Kelli; Great-grandmother of Anjelica Raye, Kaylyn Renee, Avariella Rain, Olivia, Ella, Ty, Roland, Simone, Morgan and Billy; Also cherished by many nieces and nephews.

     Mrs. Meeks was retired from the State of Michigan. She was a member of the Walton Boulevard Church of God, Pontiac, Michigan and was a member of the Calvary Church of God, Paintsville, Kentucky.

     A private service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home for the immediate family only. Burial will follow at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville, Kentucky.       Lawanna Sue Kennard, age 80 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Mountain Manor of Paintsville.

     Born August 28, 1939 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Beecher Wells and Margie (Goble) Wells. In addition to her parents, Lawanna is preceded in death by her husband, Vonnie Kennard; and one brother, Harold David Wells.

     She is survived by three brothers, Russell Wells and Roger Dean Wells both of Springfield, Ohio and Carl Wayne Wells of Auxier, Kentucky; and two sisters; Phyllis Blevins of Paintsville, Kentucky and Judy Kaye Delong of Hager Hill, Kentucky.

     There will be no public visitation or funeral at this time. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Kennard will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
