He retired from Marco Mine Supply in May 1998. He turned off his alarm and picked up his fishing rod. He spent many good days on the lake, but to Palmer his greatest accomplishment was his military service.
In Cincinnati, Ohio in 1953 at the age of 17, Palmer Gillispie decided to answer the call and serve his country. TMC Gillispie quickly earned the respect of those who served under him as well as his commanding officers. When a crewman was put up for advancement, and they had Palmer's mentorship, they were automatically put up for that advancement. Gillispie had a shining reputation as a knowledgable teacher. TMC Gillispie served his country with honor and distinction on a nuclear submarine around the world for twenty years. His dedication to the sailors under him and to his country is a testimony to his character, talent and values which he embodied: HONOR, COURAGE and COMMITMENT. LOVE of Country, LOVE of GOD.
