Olen Thomas Fitch, known to most as Tommy, age 60 of Paintsville, died May 19th, 2021 at Pikeville Nursing and Rehabilitation at peace and resting under the care of Hospice.
He leaves behind two sons, Dustin Fitch of Columbus, OH, and Christopher Fitch of Prestonsburg, KY. His Father and Mother, Olen and Janet Fitch of Tutor Key, KY, a brother Steve Fitch of Paintsville, KY, and a sister Pam Butcher of Paintsville, KY, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Born in Paintsville KY on June 4th of 1960, Tommy spent most of his youth exploring the hills, hollers, and streams he loved so dearly. Both throughout Paintsville, Kentucky and Logan, WV. Tommy was known at each body of water within driving distance and loved by many people that he came to know along the way. A former equipment operator, laborer, and welder, Tommy loved to be outdoors whether it was for work or leisure.
Those that knew Tommy knew of his favorite place in all the world, New River, Virginia. Kentucky, as he was nicknamed there, was a friend to all, lending a hand when needed or helping to guide those looking for a good fishing hole. A mounted 5lb 4ounce smallmouth still today is a story many who loved him know far too well. The murky water, the rain, and the lighting as he would say, “all better for the fishing.”
Tommy was always known for his willingness to serve and help wherever a hand was needed. His stroke in 2014 left him unable to work alongside and for others as much as he would have desired. But it never stopped him from lending a hand in the planning or the talking one through a task. Tommy just wanted to be of help if he felt he could.
Services for Olen “Tommy” Fitch will be open to family and friends on Saturday May 22nd 5pm-8pm for the public. Followed by an hour of viewing on Sunday May 23rd at 11am followed by the funeral at noon. Dustin Fitch will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.
