George “Bud” Blanton age 88 of Flat Gap, Kentucky passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Highlands ARH in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
Born December 5, 1933 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Emma McKenzie Blanton and Charlie Blanton. In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Mary Evelyn and Junior Baldwin; brother and sister in law, Johnny and Juanita Blanton; brother in law, Forrest Pelfrey; his daughter, Sherry Lynn Blanton VanHoose; nephew, Jerry Michael Pelfrey; brother in law, Bill Pelfrey.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Stapleton Blanton; loved sister, Nell Blanton Pelfrey of Staffordsville; cherished children, Terrie Sue (Carl) Kamphaus of Falmouth, KY and Chris (Stephanie) Blanton of Versailles, Ky; adored grandchildren, Reese Wells of Alexandria, KY, Chase (Raleigh) Wells of Pikeville, KY, Logan (Kellye Cluck) VanHoose of Winchester, KY, Karlee Blanton of Versailles and Tyler Blanton also of Versailles; precious great grandchildren, (Reece's) Jayden and Alyse, (Chase's) Charley, Harrison and Analeigh, (James') Kenna, Lily, Avery, and Brenden, (Cory's) Bree, Hunter, Oliver and Owen; and several very dear nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held 12:00pm Saturday, March 5, 2022 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home from 2:00pm to 9:00pm Friday and from 11:00am to 12:00pm Saturday prior to the service. Robert Blanton and Tim Salyers will officiate. Michael A. Godfrey, age 34 of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at his residence. Born June 16, 1987 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Michael A. Godfrey and Amelia (Blevins) Godfrey. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter “Curly” Blevins and Elva Cora Blevins.
Michael is survived by his father, Michael A. Godfrey and wife, Thesla of Wesley Chapel, Florida; his mother, Amelia (Blevins) Godfrey of Paintsville, Kentucky; two brothers: David Brandon Ward and his wife, Jennifer of Idaho and Justin Matthew Ward of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; two sisters: Tamira Godfrey and Camila Godfrey, both of Wesley Chapel, Florida; paternal grandfather, Seaford Godfrey of Las Vegas, Nevada; paternal grandmother, Violet Young of Jamaica; nephews: Peyton Ward, Noah Ward, and Ethan Ward. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and friends also survive.
Michael was baptized on May 6, 2018 and was a member of the Elevation Church of North Carolina. Michael was a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and also was a member of the Braves football team. Michael was a diehard University of Duke and Tennessee Titans fan.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday, February 24, 2022 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Blevins Family Cemetery at West Van Lear, Kentucky. Neal Cantrell, age 63 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022 at his residence. Born October 3, 1958 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Jessie Cantrell of Paintsville, Kentucky and the late, Betty Jean “Peggy” (McKenzie) Cantrell. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Lynn (Hensley) Cantrell.
In addition to his father, he is survived by three sons: Shane Cantrell and Blake Cantrell of Paintsville, Kentucky and Chase Cantrell of Auburn, Washington; one brother, Mark Cantrell and wife, Jeanette of Hager Hill, Kentucky; five grandchildren: Madelyn “Maddie” Cantrell, Dawson Cantrell, Lexi Cantrell, Peyton Cantrell, and Anaiya Cantrell; one nephew, Collin Cantrell; one niece, Shelbie Cantrell; special friends, Adam and Andrea Meade of Paintsville, Kentucky.
Neal was a member of the Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church. He was retired from Pepsi, where he worked for over 30 years.
Funeral services will be held 12:00pm Friday, February 18, 2022 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville, Kentucky. Jerry McKenzie, Aaron Penix, and Ronnie Spriggs will officiate. John Allen Schwarz, 68 years old and a resident of Piqua, Ohio died on February 13, 2022 as a casualty of the war currently going on in the United States health care system. He fought this battle hard, and now his soul is at peace. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends whom he loved and adored.
John was a God and Country loving Patriot who was born on June 4th, 1953 to John Roy and Marcella (nee Hooker) Schwarz. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Roy; and his brother-in-laws, David Keith Medina, Dave Nier, and Luther VanHoose.
He married Barbara Ann (nee Shaffer) on July 2, 1988 and she survives. He also leaves behind his children, Brian (Patty) Schwarz of Gainesboro TN, Shawn (Mandy) Sanders of Houston, Jessica (Alex) Karabinis and Joshua Schwarz all of Piqua; sister Sue Ellen (Schwarz) VanHoose of Tutor Key KY; grandchildren, Sierra Sircy, Darrien (Leah) Sanders, Mason (Indika) Sanders, Brian Lee Schwarz II, Marah Sanders, Sabastian Karabinis, Marcella Schwarz, Leon Schwarz, Quinten Karabinis, Garin Schwarz, Serenity Grace Schwarz; and his great-grandchildren Braxton, Harrison, Tawny, & Zayda. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
John was a native of Dayton and attended Kiser High School, class of 72. He had the mind of an Engineer with the hands of a machinist with exceptional talent. He enjoyed a career as a skilled machinist and mechanic working at French Oil Mill and Machinery Co. and retired from Stillwater Technologies. He was also a business owner of Eagle Custom Caskets and Custom Metal Creations. He enjoyed life riding his Harley, racing RC cars and flying RC planes. He was a member of WACO Barnstormers Historical Society Flying Club and Rusty Geezers Car Club. John was able to fulfill a lifelong dream by building a 1923 T Bucket Roadster from scratch. John and Barbara enjoyed spending the past 8 years restoring an 1877 historical home which was a labor of love for them. He was not only a great friend to many, but a teacher by sharing his faith and knowledge.
John was a member of “The Valley Church” where he served in ministry by videotaping services for homebound members when the church was first established as UVCC which eventually led into video editing for local cable station viewing.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2022 at Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Luke VanHoose and Pastor Andy Monnin officiating. Burial will be held at the VanHoose/Daniel Family Cemetery in Tutor Key, Kentucky on Friday evening before sundown. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to The Valley Church, 1400 Seidel Parkway, Piqua OH 45356. Joe Lee Honeycutt, age 77 of Martha, Kentucky passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at Paintsville ARH. Born February 20, 1944 in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Malcolm Honeycutt and Aileen Collins Honeycutt. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons: Joe Lee Honeycutt, Jr. and Gregory Lynn Honeycutt; two brothers, Marvin Honeycutt and Nathan Lee Honeycutt; four sisters, Emma Joy Lynn, Norma Brown, Carlene Oney and Ester Fitch.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Keaton Honeycutt of Martha, Kentucky; four daughters: Lora Jean Elam, Stephanie (Keith) Cisco, and Julie Honeycutt all of Martha, Kentucky and Teresa Jo (Jeff) Grueneberg of Louisville, Kentucky; four sisters: Loretta (Bob) Robertson of Wayne, West Virginia, Glenda Lester, Tracy Honeycutt and Stacy Honeycutt all of Martha, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren: Brian Holbrook, Reed Mosley, Floyd Collins, Samuel Collins, Doug Collins, Emery Collins, John Cisco, Mason Cisco, Talia Wheeler, Brittany Ramey, Jessica Muncy, and Ashley Wells; fifteen great grandchildren. A great number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
This man loved his community and his neighbors. He never saw a stranger and was always eager to help if you were in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Chuck “Pit Bull” Hampton, age 63 of Flat Gap, Kentucky passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at his residence.
Born August 31, 1958 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Howard “Boss” Hampton and Anna Avonelle Jaynes Hampton. In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Hampton. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Arms Hampton; two sons, Michael and Becky Hampton of Sitka, Kentucky and Craig and Brittany Hampton of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; one daughter, Crystal Hampton of Georgetown, Kentucky; four brothers, Bill (Donna) Hampton of Sitka, Kentucky, James (Sherry) Hampton of Trotwood, Ohio, Lincoln (Gina) Hampton of Salyersville, Kentucky and Danny (Missy) Hampton of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; five sisters, Barbara (Gary) Pierce of Wittensville, Kentucky, Bonnie (Jack) Childers of Waco, Kentucky, Sadonia (Greg) Fields of Lowmansville, Kentucky, Robin (Mike) Garland of Prestonsburg, Kentucky and Laura (Sam) Cole of Wittensville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Travis Hampton, Jordan Hampton, Destiny Napier, Jayce Hampton and Reagan Hampton; and two great grandchildren, Addalyn Hampton and Drake Hampton. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Elijah “Snook” Freeman, age 86 of East Point, Kentucky passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Born February 5, 1936 in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Jessie James Freeman and Darcus (Marshall) Freeman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one son, Paul L. Freeman; one daughter, Dora Lorene Freeman; two brothers: Jim Freeman and George Freeman; and two sisters: Alma Povrzenich and Lorene McKee.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Lorene (Blair) Freeman of East Point, Kentucky; three sons: Rick James Freeman and his wife, Annie of East Point, Kentucky, Keith Freeman and his wife, Amy of Flat Gap, Kentucky, Allen Freeman and his wife, Susie of East Point, Kentucky; one daughter, Teresa Blevins and her husband, Monte of East Point, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
Elijah was a member of the East Point Church of Christ.

Wanda Sue Williams, age 46 of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022 at Paintsville ARH Regional Medical Center.
Sue was born June 1, 1975 in Floyd County, Kentucky, daughter of John Daniel “Dan” Hitchcock and the late Juanita Fairchild Hitchcock. She is survived by her fiancé, Caleb Tackett of Paintsville, Kentucky; her father and step-mother, John Daniel “Dan” Hitchcock and Donna Hitchcock of Staffordsville, Kentucky; two children: Jacob Williams of Georgetown, Kentucky and Jonathon Tackett; two sisters, Nancy Carol Hitchcock of Paintsville, Kentucky, Beth Ann Scott (Buck) of Paintsville, Kentucky; one brother, John Daniel Hitchcock, Jr. (Kayla) of Paintsville, Kentucky. Several nieces and nephews, along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022 in the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Blair and Mike Blanton officiating. Mary Pack Blair, age 82 of West Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Paintsville A R H.
Born July 6, 1939 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Pack and Mayme Marie Stapleton Pack. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Blair; one son, Herbert Blair; two brothers, Paul Pack and Delmar Pack; sisters, Earlene Castle, Joyce “Joy” Hall, Debbie Bowling, Brenda Thacker and Phyllis “Tootsie” Pack.
Mary is survived by one daughter, Sandra and Doug Young of West Van Lear, Kentucky; one son, Jeff and Sandy Jo Blair of Hager Hill, Kentucky; one brother, Ronald and Barb Pack of Stambaugh, Kentucky; three sisters, Jean and Joe Trimble of Orlando, Florida, Gayle McKenzie of Sunbury, Ohio and Charlotte Hall of Paintsville, Kentucky; daughter in law, Christa Blair of Huntington, West Virginia; two grandchildren, Casey (Cheris) Young of Campbellsville, Kentucky and Corey (Jess) Young of Danville, Virginia; four great grandchildren, Cayleigh, Caleb, Addy and Vivi; step grandchildren, Dakota Kliber, Damion Kliber and Ashton Paige Dempsey; and step great grandchildren, Xavier Leach and Myles Dempsey.
Mary was a longtime member of the Southside Freewill Baptist Church.

Lillian (Hall) Dove, age 76 of Martin, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Born May 29, 1945 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late Nelson Hall and Lizzie (Lawson) Hall. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by four brothers: A.B. Hall, Columbus Hall, L.C. Hall, Ernie Hall; three sisters: Bobbie Rowe, Kathy Hall, Berchie Hall.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Vernon Dove of Martin, Kentucky; two sons: James “Jamie” Dove of Martin, Kentucky and John Dove and his wife, Bonita of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; one brother, Kermit Hall and his wife, Faye of Dana, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Kaegan Dove and Bradyn Dove; special friend, Georgie Layne.
